My Funny Valentine: In Concert (Live)

My Funny Valentine: In Concert (Live)

This concert from 1964 shows Miles grooming some younger players, including pianist Herbie Hancock and drummer Tony Williams, both of whom went on to his second great quintet. The spark between Miles and Williams is clear on the opening track, with the suave way both players lock into a new tempo inspiring mid-song applause from the crowd, and the soul-jazz chords Hancock drops into “All Blues” gives an early look into the many new styles he would offer up to Davis’ aesthetic.
