Melbourne’s Models are one of New Wave’s originals. They would eventually find commercial appeal with a slick pop sound, but their nervy debut heralds a gang chancing upon a room of instruments and hammering out primal art punk. Tracks like “Strategic Air Command” and “Twice Removed” bear traces of wiry ska-punk laced with oddball electronic blasts. Pinched-voiced frontman Sean Kelly rails against dancing (“Two People Per Sq. Km”) and being dumped (“Pull the Pin”), mining the tension in their addictively playful pop.
