A cheerful collaboration between Vampire Weekend guitarist/keyboardist/musical director Rostam Batmanglij and Ra Ra Riot’s Wes Miles, Discovery mines '80s dance music, '00s hip-hop, radio R&B and reggae for something light, summery and unapologetically fun. Even the album’s melancholic songs (“Swing Tree,” “Can You Discover?”) have a sweet, almost naïve buoyancy to them, while uptempo tracks—including collaborations with Vampire Weekend singer Ezra Koenig (“Carby”) and then-Dirty Projector Angel Deradoorian (“I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend”)—are deliriously effervescent.
