iTunes Review

In 1964, Dave Clark Five's raucous beat-driven pop was the only rival to the Beatles' nascent British Invasion. Over the course of their short career (they disbanded in 1970), they created songs that would go on to sell over one hundred million copies. Driven by Dave Clark's front-and-center drumming and Mike Smith's gravelly unhinged vocals, the group knocked out hits like "Bits and Pieces", Glad All Over" and "Because" - hitting the American top 40 over a dozen other times in a three year period. The influence of this hard-working, no-frills, beat-tastic five-piece group can be heard in anyone who espouses a love of pure, energetic rock 'n' roll. This superb collection also boasts a digital booklet which does a great job of putting the band in the context they deserve.

the SECOND greatest 60s band? pfft!

Mention the name 'Dave Clark Five' to anyone on the street, and nine times out of ten you will hear the reply "Glad All Over". The DC5 were by no means a 'one-hit wonder'. Selling over 100 million trecords worldwide was something that only the Beatles and Elvis had experienced, and yet, why is it that most people don't know the DC5's legacy? Well this amazing collection helps sort that out for a start. Although it weighs heavily on the first half of their career (before they rode the 'rock n roll revival' bandwagon in late 1969), all the big beat tracks are here. "Anyway You Want It" is still amazing to hear now! Full blown reverb, echo and bass.... and it doesnt sound distorted ;) Of course the DC5 weren't just fantastic performers of beat music; they also released some fantastic ballads which still sound good. "Because", "Everybody Knows", "Come Home", etc. And if all this doesnt make up an amazing career, which other band can say that they've released two different singles with the same title!!!! lol. Their recent induction into the "Rock n Roll Hall of Fame" has been EXTREMELY long overdue.
