Le volume du vent, Karkwa's third album, finds the Quebec rock group swinging for the fences. Their expansive sound surges on successive waves of emotion, earning rightful comparisons to Radiohead’s, yet the French language offers singer Louis-Jean Cormier and his bandmates something warmer and altogether their own. A prime example comes near the halfway mark with “La façade”, a driving, intense and at times achingly pretty song about false appearances. Beautifully arranged, urgently performed, this is rock as swelling, swirling reverie.
