Enjoy Yourself

Enjoy Yourself

The phrase “difficult second album” isn’t in Kylie Minogue’s vocabulary. For Enjoy Yourself, the actress-turned-pop-star reunited with Stock Aitken Waterman, the production team that oversaw her blockbuster 1988 debut album, Kylie, resulting in another collection full of polished pop gems. The album naturally leans upbeat, with disco-inspired dance-floor anthems such as “Hand On Your Heart” and “Never Too Late” whirling around the laidback club jam “Wouldn’t Change a Thing”. Yet Enjoy Yourself also gives Minogue space to stretch out and explore a more sophisticated side. A faithful take on Little Anthony & The Imperials’ 1958 hit “Tears On My Pillow” is a romantic throwback with sudsy strings, while the jazzy “Tell Tale Signs” and the ballad “Heaven and Earth” find Minogue showing off an impressive vocal range.
