EDITORS’ NOTES

When New Zealand’s Dance Exponents arrived back home in the early ‘90s after a few years in the UK, they came with not only a shortened new name but also the makings of their finest album. Something Beginning With C showcases their warmer, more soulful sound. Opening with the shambling false start “Come on In”, the album breezes through all sorts of alt-rock hybrids. Ringing, jangly guitars propel the power-pop of “Why Does Love Do This to Me” and “Whatever Happened to Tracey”, but for locked-in grooves, check out the spare, hypnotic “Sometimes”.
