Bombs Away

Bombs Away

Just months after the eye-opening success of their chart-topping splash, “Geronimo,” Sheppard unveil Bombs Away, a full-length debut that follows on the promise of that breakthrough single. The Brisbane outfit—led by siblings George and Amy Sheppard—have crafted a collection of folk-pop anthems that is at once effervescent and diverse. “Let Me Down Easy” is an infectious, impossibly bouncy tune whose vocal harmonies are as plush as the synth beds that line the album's electro-pop high point, “A Grade Playa.” And like the martial pulse that drives “Geronimo,” Sheppard are at their strongest when they’re surging forward—as they are on “The Best Is yet to Come,” a second-half standout that opens with a beautiful, fingerpicked melody and blooms into something far grander.
