Album Review

It's no accident that the first thing one sees at Frankie Randall's Internet home is a picture of him with a smiling Frank Sinatra. Randall is an unabashed admirer of Sinatra who delights in singing songs the Chairman of the Board made famous. Another link with Sinatra is formed on this CD with Vincent Falcone on hand to do the arranging and leading of the band. Falcone was Sinatra's musical director for ten years and is a fixture in the pits of the big Las Vegas venues. Although Randall derives his vim-and-vigor delivery style from Sinatra, he is not a complete clone, although apparently Frank Sinatra, Jr. didn't think so in a suit against Randall. This third Randall album is devoted mostly to the swinging side of the Sinatra legacy, with medium- and up-tempo, loose charts provided by Falcone for such tunes as "Slow Boat to China" and "Night and Day." Randall is not a substitute for the magical appeal of Sinatra. Nonetheless, he pleasantly reminds listeners of the not-to-be-forgotten contributions the master made to popular music, as well as making a statement of his own. Recommended.
