Sony Special Products' budget-priced Duane Eddy compilation Rebel Rouser features ten instrumentals from the influential guitar slinger, including "Rebel Walk," "Night Train to Memphis," "Peter Gunn Theme" and the iconic title cut. While not without its rewards, fans put off by the six-disc RCA Years: 1962-1964 collection should bypass this aberration and pick up Rhino's Twang Thang: Anthology, still the most solid and comprehensive Eddy collection available.

If Duane Eddy's instrumental hits from the late '50s can sound unduly basic and repetitive (especially when taken all at once), he was vastly influential. Perhaps the most successful instrumental rocker of his time, he may have also been the man most responsible (along with Chuck Berry) for popularizing the electric rock guitar.
