Paging Mr. Strike

Machine Gun Fellatio’s 2002 second album, allegedly named for an incident at an airport involving a portable 10-pin bowling set, showcases the Sydney-based alternative band at their most hedonistically joyful. With language that would make a sailor blush and musical “instruments” including power drills, they rampage all over the musical map with songs about sex, drugs and, of course, rollercoasters. “Pussy Town” boasts about bedroom prowess, “Mouth” is about seducing an award-winning hitman’s wife and KK Juggy’s delightfully vulgar “(Let Me Be Your) Dirty F****n Whore” sounds like it’s emitting out of a vintage gramophone. Frontman Pinky Beecroft’s penchant for heart-piercing lyricism comes through in some slower songs, particularly “The Girl of My Dreams (Is Giving Me Nightmares)”, but this album is mostly dedicated to having a wonderful time under the influence of whatever’s going around—and making crowds of fans sing along to nonsense lyrics like “I’m a gorilla in a wooden keg.” MGF would release one more album after this one went platinum—2004’s tellingly titled On Ice—before internal pressures broke them down a year later. But for the time being, it was all about partying hard and getting amorous along the way.
