EDITORS’ NOTES

There’s a gentle sensuality to the R&B of High Hoops’ debut album, which the Auckland-based artist (real name Jordan Arts) produced wrote, engineered and mixed himself. He played every instrument too. Inspired by his experiences with love and heartbreak, Seasons on Planet Earth feels like it was made for intimate moments and late nights. It’s easy to picture the sophisticated house beats of “Madly” and “Heatwave” soundtracking an elite nightclub, while the slinky, downtempo “Dangerous” and falsetto-laden breakup track “Blue Eyes” take cues from low-key reggae and trip-hop.
