The Very Best of Beenie Man: Gold provides an extensive look at the career of Beenie Man, one of dancehall's most notorious DJ's. This 20-track survey might be a bit extensive for most casual listeners; but not only is it a road map into the course of dancehall history, it's practically a blueprint. All of the well-known slabs and hits are included, as well as a few that didn't necessarily translate into hits, but were equally important benchmarks in Beenie Man's insanely prolific career. While it's not as in depth as 2000's double-disc set, it's the perfect place for the casual listener to get started.

Then again, when you're a recording veteran at age ten, one wonders just what took him so long.
