Brilliant and addictive PvP

Wow I couldn't stop playing this game with my kids. Love the LAN functionality. We were able to challenge each other being in different rooms! Even though they didn't have an iOS phone.

Ink Wars Review

When comparing this game to its original version it has been improved, but there are also things that could be improved.

This game's visual designs and art are good as well as the music.

The Adventure mode (previously named story mode) has pretty much no story whatsoever as only the "Hero-Types" have story cutscenes, but these cutscenes don't provide any context to what is happening (no text or speech, only storyboard pictures). Also there are hardly any cutscenes in the game, which means that there's essentially no story whatsoever. The game includes descriptions of each of the characters, but doesn't explain how the characters relate to each other or what their point of the story is.

I like how the characters now have specific types to go along with their stats instead of only showing their stats. For some of the characters they have been hidden behind micro-transactions (you have to pay real money to be able to unlock them) instead of being unlocked by filling up their "ink meter". Some characters are completely unplayable as they are "Coming Soon", even though they were playable in the original version (although they may be playable in a future update). The Ika Hobo character's description refers to him as being 'special', this can be interpreted as being offensive (not always, but it can be).
The sound quality of the characters voices isn't the best, also during the "Ink Em Up" section your character will repeat the same line multiple times, this can be very annoying.

"Ranking" and "Local Battle" should not require energy tokens/clam shells, but since they do you could be waiting a while for it to reload and to be able to play the game with your friend.

Some puzzles might not work (replaying one doing the same move may or may not work). The transitions between the level select and battles/puzzles is slow and seems like it will crash the game, but doesn't. Every time you want to pick a character you have to wait for the character selection screen to stop spinning, this is annoying and unnecessary. This would be better if it was used with a random select option, instead of happening every time you select a team.

The bubble battles are worse than the original; The speed is slow and laggy. A lot of the time it doesn't accurately track where you're aiming, which can cause you to fire somewhere you don't want it to. Also you sometimes have to tap the screen a few times for the bubble to be shot. The bubbles have been improved by not only having individual colours, but also having shapes to make them different from one another.

The "Ink Em Up" event that happens after each battle is very slow and lags a lot which means that you can easily lose the extra points for being quick. It also requires you to tap the screen in specific areas (which the game does not tell you where to tap the screen) just to be able fire the ink bubbles.
When compared to the original game all you had to do was tap your side of the screen, but in the current version it is almost not worth it as you can hardly do anything. Also the music for this event cuts off way too soon, meaning you are left with silence and the game's sound effects (originally the music would last until the time ran out and was fully finished).
