Description

The official Philips Hue app is the most comprehensive way to organise, control and customise your Philips Hue smart lights and accessories.

Organise your smart lights
Group your lights into Rooms or Zones — your entire downstairs floor or all the lights in the living room, for example — that mirror the physical rooms in your home.

Easily control your lights — from anywhere
Use the app to control your lights anywhere you have an internet connection.

Explore the Hue scene gallery
Created by professional lighting designers, the scenes in the scene gallery can help you set the mood for any occasion. You can even create your own scenes based on a photo or your favourite colours.

Set up bright home security
Make your home feel safer, no matter where you are. The Security Centre lets you programme your Secure cameras, Secure contact sensors and indoor motion sensors to send you alerts when they detect activity. Trigger light and sound alarms, call the authorities or a trusted contact, and monitor your home in real-time.

Get the best light for any moment of the day
Let your lights change automatically throughout the day with the Natural light scene — so you feel more energised, focused, relaxed or rested at the right times. Just set the scene to watch your lights change with the sun’s movement, transitioning from cool blue tones in the morning to warmer, relaxing hues for sunset.

Automate your lights
Make your smart lights work around your daily routine. Whether you want your lights to gently wake you up in the morning or greet you when you get home, setting up customisable automations in the Philips Hue app is effortless.

Sync your lights to TV, music and games
Make your lights flash, dance, dim, brighten and change colour in sync with your screen or sound! With the Philips Hue Play HDMI sync box, the Philips Hue Sync for TV or desktop apps or Spotify, you can create totally immersive experiences.

Set up voice control
Use Apple Home, Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant to control your smart lights with voice commands. Turn lights on and off, dim and brighten or even change colours — completely hands-free.

Use Siri Shortcuts for quick control
Use the Shortcuts app to create shortcuts that you can place into widgets on your Home Screen for even faster control of your lights. Turn lights on or off, adjust their brightness and temperature or set scenes – all without even opening the app.

What’s New

Version 5.14.1

• Woo-hoo, we've got widgets! Control your lights right from your Home Screen, Lock Screen, or Today View — just tap and hold, tap the plus (+) icon, and search "Hue."
• Friends of Hue switches got smarter: You can now use Time-based light, Scene cycle mode, the Natural light scene, and more.
• Save scene changes with a tap. Instead of tapping the pencil icon to edit, you can now simply adjust any light from the Room or Zone — and then edit the entire scene in which it's active. Tap Save in the top left to save as a new scene or save the changes to your original scene.

Whole house

Ok so after years of using Hue in selected lights and lamps, when it came to rebuilding our home I went all the way. 50 lights inside, 12 outside plus 10 on the 12v garden lighting.
I added an extra hub, which did improve things … though it’s a real pain I can’t have out of home control on .
In all other respects despite my wife’s concerns it’s been a great success.
Integration with Alexa makes all the difference being able to set simple commands like Relax, Mum, Bye Bye etc. The versatility is actually more of a feature than the convenience.
It’s probably taken 3 weeks to sort everything properly but it was still functional from day 1.
Out of interest I put 2 switches in the house as back up. One controls the main loop the other all the subsidiary lights. Haven’t needed to use them at all.

One big problem with the new update!

The app works well, though I am very upset that the integrated Philips Hue light control widgets have been removed. In the app it now tells you how to set up Siri Shortcuts as widgets when you go to the widgets menu. This makes it incredibly inconvenient to have all the widgets in one compact area like you could in the previous version. Now, you can fit either 2 or 4 “widgets” into the same space that you could previously fit 8. I am quite annoyed that this feature is now gone, as this is the one that was most useful to me personally.

It has also been made more difficult to change the colour of a room’s lights all at once without making a special scene just for it. Now, each light must be changed individually, whereas before you could adjust the room as a whole.

Overall the only noticeable improvement has been the style and appearance of the user interface. As far as the functional features of the app go, it feels like a step backwards that has removed useful features, though this is coming from the perspective of a person who does not use the automation features of the app very much.

Just one feature missing (in my opinion)

The ability to start a timer and have the lights fade during the course of that timer (or even start fading at the end of the timer). You have the option to have the lights fade off over 5-10 minutes if you wish, but it’s based from a set time (eg. every day at 9:30pm) But what about when you don’t go to bed at the same time every night? I use this for my kids and there are times I want to say “5 minutes until lights off” but then I have to go in manually and set the “every day” time to 5 minutes after the current time in order for my desired effect. It’s very frustrating. I don’t know if this is making sense. But I can’t find this functionality anywhere, or on any third party apps and it would be so simple to implement. It would be the one thing I’d need to take my experience to perfection. Other than that, I’m in love.
