Roadside Stories are a series of audio guides to places of interest on major road trips in New Zealand. Each guide tells the story of an attraction along the way - its people, its history, its cultural and natural significance.

The Roadside Stories app contains 13 tours with 140 stops. Each stop has a four-minute audio file and images of the location.

You can download the tours individually before heading out on the road so you don't have to worry about mobile data. Each tour includes a map showing the location of the stops.

For more information about Roadside Stories visit:

Note: Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life. We advise you to quit the app when finished.

I'm planning a drive up to Taupo next month and I have to hold off enjoying these stories until I'm in the right spots. I am not however going down to the South Island… so I've now listened to all of those ones :). My favourite was the one about the Moeraki boulders.

Great travelling companion

Off soon on a trip around NZ with 6 and 9 yr old. Only heard Invercargill to Queenstown so far but I think these will be fun and informative.

Downloads too large!

If each trip download is as large as the 34mb file just for the trip from Auckland to Hamilton I hate to think how long it will take to download all NZ roadside stories. Love the idea but haven't got time nor patience to persevere.
