Good magazine but app has problems and support is bad

I'm an iPad edition subscriber but I've had many problems with this app that have left me very frustrated.

When launching the App I'm prompted for my iTunes password, the screen and keyboard will then rotate making it difficult to type my password. If I get my password entered correctly or incorrectly the App will still fail to load and I'm dumped back out to the home screen.

I've re-installed the App and re-downloaded my issues once, and while this fixed the problem for a short while it came back after a couple of days. Re-downloading issues is something I try to avoid as here in New Zealand internet connections are typically capped, sometimes as low as 5GB a month.

I've not been able to access or read new issues for several weeks now which is very frustrating. Wired's support page for this app doesn't let me complete the form and submit a request for support instead it gives an error that I must submit a valid city though there is no field for city!

Overall I recommend you try this app with the free content available but stick with buying the paper version until these bugs are sorted out and the app is better supported.

Magazine download failed

I used to read the print edition faithfully until the price became too much in New Zealand. As soon as I got my iPad I immediately purchased the latest issue.

Alas, the download stopped 2/3 of the way through. I fired a missive off to Wired and someone will eventually get back, I suppose. I'm writing this review the following day, so I figure they're closed for the weekend.

I tried downloading again, and it stopped in exactly the same place. Because we pay for bandwidth in NZ, that's 540MB to date, and it costs me. If it eventually gets resolved, that will cost another 337MB!

We strike a bargain with publishers. The deal is that the iPad and it's ilk are supposed to save their industry. But if they take our money then we expect the product right away. I realise that there are technical glitches beyond their control, but then all they have to do is at least inform their customers when the issue will be resolved.

Here's hoping that it gets fixed. They have a motivated buyer, but they have to deliver the product.

Poor

I eagerly awaited this latest issue, which promised to be retina compatible. However I was dismayed by the 789MB size. I was frustrated that this app does not support background downloading. I started the download, quit the app to do something else, and returned later on to discover my download had paused. When the download finally completed, and I started to the read the magazine I found that not everything is retina. Much of the text ads were fuzzy. Normally I don't look at the ads anyway, but seeing them like that is just distracting. I will not be renewing my subscription this month.
