Cast turned the ears of the British musical press with a lush sound incorporating the melodic knowhow of the Smiths, the inturned mopeyness of Ride and the perky pop center of Paul McCartney. Bass player John Powers formed the band upon the dissolution of the much-hyped one-album wonder the La's. The band’s debut album, ALL CHANGE, earned critical accolades and made the top ten in the U.K. album charts. The 1997 follow-up, MOTHER NATURE CALLS, spawned the act's biggest hit single, "Guiding Star,"’ but the clamor started to fade and by 2001, Cast were no more.
