Cida Moreyra's career began in 1977, working in musicals in São Paulo. In 1980, she staged her first solo show, Summertime, where she recorded her first live album, the independent LP Summertime (1981). The release had classic American blues and jazz songs, but also brought the vetoed (by censorship) version of Chico Buarque's "Geni." Her distinctive, personal interpretation, deeply influenced by theatrical sensibility, is enhanced in meetings with the works of her icons in dedicated releases like Cida Moreyra Interpreta Brecht (1989, Continental) and Cida Canta Chico (1993, Kuarup).
