About Dirty Three

Melancholy instrumental trio Dirty Three formed in Melbourne, Australia in 1992, featuring classically trained violinist Warren Ellis, guitarist Mick Turner, and drummer Jim White. A demo was released as Sad & Dangerous, the trio's debut, in 1994. Tours in support of Pavement and Sonic Youth helped win them a deal with Touch & Go, which issued Dirty Three (1995), Horse Stories (1996), Ocean Songs (1998), and Whatever You Love, You Are (2000). Dirty Three later reconvened with producer Fabrice Laureau to make the enigmatic, dark album She Has No Strings Apollo (2003). Cinder, featuring Chan Marshall and Sally Timms, followed two years later. Toward the Low Sun, their debut for Drag City, was released in 2012. ~ Jason Ankeny & Thom Jurek
