Thoughtful, witty, insightful
Presented by the quiet, clipped tones of Ira Glass, This American Life typically explores a theme via three 'acts' - related stories (fiction and non-fiction). Sometimes funny, sometimes heart-breaking but always compelling. Featured writers include David Sedaris, Sarah Vowell, David Rakoff and The Daily Show's John Hodgeman.
Exploration of Ourselves
I was put off by the title before I actually heard 'This American Life' as I thought it might not seem relevant to me but really it would more acurately be titled 'This Life' because it's really an exploration of humanity itself. I cannot recommend this enough, it's extraordinary that TAL is available weekly. Listen to it at night.
What radio should be
Intriguing, insightful, well executed and very engaging - I'm hooked.
