A television music supervisor by day, songwriter Jason Koiter has an ear for hooks that set a mood, and he knows how to pace compositions for maximum impact. Koiter self-produced his debut EP, Something Unseen, and played every instrument as well. His upbeat pop-rock takes cues from the Gin Blossoms and Jimmy Eat World—he's as comfortable with jangly guitar hooks ("What I Know") as with driving rock riffs ("Take Time")—and he embraces his one-man-with-a-guitar nature on "Amanda's Song", a delicate ballad of softly plucked devotion.
