Album Review

Elton Britt is one of the true mystery men of country music; not much is known of his life and offstage he was described as a dull and colorless sort. But he left behind a brace of marvelous cowboy recordings in the Gene Autry style that have endured nicely and this set of transcription recordings enhances his rep just that much more. Nice transfers from the original lacquers yield top flight versions of "Pinto Pal," "Goodbye May God Take Care Of You," "Trip to the Moon," "Some Time Sue," "Ain't You a Little Bit Sorry?," "Put Me in Your Pocket," and "There's a Star Spangled Banner Waving Somewhere." Elton could sing a ballad and break your heart, yodel with the best of 'em, and dig right into an uptempo toe tapper with equal flair. Here's a nice introduction to his style.
