Kojak is a funky French house outfit, comprising techno DJ Gregorie Galian, soul singer Jayhem Racon and DJ Vas from hip-hop act, Mauvais Graine. Their blend of funk, disco, house and electro has seen them compared to fellow French ‘filtered disco’ acts such as Cassius, Daft Punk, Air and Etienne De Crécy. Their debut, Crime In The City, received much critical acclaim when it was released in the UK in September 1999. The album was an infectious blend of funky basslines, house and techno beats and 70s film and television soundtrack-inspired grooves. Kojak built a strong following in France and the UK through their live appearances. Their fusion of various 70s and 90s dance music genres is reminiscent of the new wave of acts such as Basement Jaxx and Groove Armada that are making soulful, inventive yet dancefloor-friendly music.
