Ramblin'

Ramblin'

Before Lucinda Williams perfected her own country-rock sound, she revisited a few blues and hillbilly classics for this debut LP. Her take on "Jug Band Music" doesn’t use any actual jugs—just two acoustic guitars—but that contrast only makes the song richer as she pines to hear a sound that's far away in both time and distance. Meanwhile, she croons Hank Williams' "Jambalaya" with an unexpected melancholy, describing the lyrics’ iconic bayou crawfish party as if it’s the last time it’ll ever happen.
