Instantly reach the people in your life—for free. Messenger is just like texting, but you don't have to pay for every message (it works with your data plan).
Not just for Facebook friends: Message people in your phone book and just enter a phone number to add a new contact.
Group chats: Create groups for the people you message most. Name them, set group photos and keep them all in one place.
Photos and videos: Shoot videos and snap selfies or other photos right from the app and send them with one tap.
Free calls: Talk as long as you want, even with people in other countries. (Calls are free over Wi-Fi. Otherwise, standard data charges apply.)
Even more ways to message:
Bring your conversations to life with stickers.
Preview your camera roll photos and videos without leaving the conversation--then choose the perfect ones to send.
Record voice messages when you have more to say.
Know when people have seen your messages.
Forward messages or photos to people who weren't in the conversation.
Search for people and groups to quickly get back to them.
Turn on location to let people know when you're nearby.
See who's available on Messenger and who's active on Facebook.
Turn off notifications when you're working, sleeping or just need a break.
Stay logged in so you never miss a message.
Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life. Messenger uses location data to make features work, help people connect and more.
We have a handful of new features we're planning to introduce in the near future, such as colour gradients and a re-skinned interface. We will be rolling this version out gradually over the next few weeks – stay tuned, we'll be back with more soon! This version includes several bug fixes and performance improvements. Thanks for using Messenger!
Coming soon: Remove a message from a chat thread after it's been sent. If you accidentally send the wrong photo, incorrect information or message the wrong thread, you can easily correct it by removing the message within ten minutes of sending it.

New UI for messenger
This new UI looks just great its simple and easy to find yourself in there i like very much the multi color patern and i saw some screenshots with the black UI if there will be a setting to change between white and black UI it would be awesome i had this UI only for couple of hours unfortunately i would love to test it more and just use its more right now, i have sometimes some lags when i am writing fast with the old patern and with this new i had less lags.
For a long time I used Facebook messenger mostly on PC and used offline mode on a daily basis.
I’ve always found, not being able to switch online/offline on mobile version, to be extremely annoying.
And You’ve FINALLY made an option to switch to offline mode... and now you take that feature away... not cool messenger! Not cool...
Watch not working
It’s a pity, can’t send a voice clip using the watch. And that’s kind of why I got the device. Also, when someone sends me a voice message, on the phone I can play it, but on the watch I cannot. Also can’t call through messenger, using the watch.
These are all features that I thought were already available, it’s pretty obvious that people want to use the watch to record messages and make calls, instead of taking out the phone. Too bad :((
