About Mambo Kingz
Puerto Rican duo Mambo Kingz have built a venerable reputation as both wizards behind the mixing boards and masterful performers, with a knack for collaborations that often read like a who’s who of Latin music all-stars. Siblings Edgar and Xavier Semper got their start in the early 2000s as producers, churning out tropical bangers for established acts, like RKM & Ken-Y’s infectious “Te Regalo Amores” and Tony Dize’s “El Doctorado”, while also embracing reggaetón’s burgeoning popularity with floor-busters like Arcángel’s “Bonita”. The group would eventually join forces with longtime friend DJ Luian to found their own label Hear This Music in 2015, which quickly became the de facto reference point for the urbano sound. Melding American hip-hop with a cadre of the most talented Spanish-language rappers, the group created the blueprint for Latin trap, amplifying it like few other artists in songs like the slow perreo jam “Solita” and “La Ocasión”, the latter of which––together with scene stalwarts Anuel AA, Arcángel, De la Ghetto and Ozuna––marked the genre’s arrival to the international stage. An impressive A&R team in their own right, the Semper brothers are famously credited with signing Bad Bunny to their label and producing some of his most iconic songs like the viral phenomenon “Soy Peor” and the Drake collab “MIA”, cementing them as genuine visionaries and prophets of Latin music’s ever-expanding multiverse.
