About Yung Lean

Originally a viral sensation, Swedish rapper Yung Lean became a kind of generational spokesman, establishing an international empire of “Sad Boys”. • As a teenager in Stockholm, Yung Lean founded the Sad Boys crew with producers Yung Gud and Yung Sherman. • He dropped his 2013 debut EP, Lavender, when he was 16. The dark, vulgar, atmospheric lead single “Ginseng Strip 2002” went viral, amassing tens of millions of video views. • His 2014 debut album, Unknown Memory, features his signature mix of introspective lyrics and woozy cloud-rap beats. • Yung Lean worked on Frank Ocean’s acclaimed 2016 album Blonde, lending vocals to “Godspeed”. • Alongside Yung Gud, he founded the punk band Död Mark and released the album Drabbad av sjukdom in 2016. • A seven-minute Western-inspired short film accompanied Yung Lean’s 2017 third album, Stranger. The official synopsis reads: “A fugitive turns into a demon then a sad clown and finally becomes a man again.” • He works closely with the Swedish artist collective Drain Gang, frequently collaborating with members Whitearmor, Bladee, Ecco2k, and Thaiboy Digital. Most of the cohort appear in the colourful music video for “Boylife In EU”, the lead single from Lean’s 2020 album Starz.
