Smart people talking, mostly about politics, but sometimes about other stuff.
||Bill Scher & Matt K. Lewis||On The DMZ, Matt laments that kids these days are ignorant of the glories of '80s pop culture, and explains how movies like Red Dawn shaped Gen Xers' politics. So why has today's Hollywood abandoned appealing to conservatives? Bill argues that Rand Paul is playing loose with the facts and thus hurting his attempt to rebrand the GOP. Has 2016 reporting gotten out of control? They analyze the new Mother Jones story on New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez that used leaked audio of private conversations to paint her as the next Sarah Palin. Plus: How should politicians navigate a privacy-free world?||4/18/14||Free||View In iTunes|

||Michael Brendan Dougherty & Freddie deBoer||On The Score, Freddie wonders why geeks are so aggrieved when geek culture, as embodied by Game of Thrones, is ascendant. Michael notes that an obsession with being the victim is a key aspect of the culture war, and they discuss why "you're doing it wrong" has become a prime trope of online conversation. They consider the forced resignation of Mozilla CEO Brendan Eich, and the left's effort to thoroughly stigmatize opposition to same-sex marriage. Freddie makes the case for legalizing polygamy, and explains why he's an apathetic atheist. Has atheism become pathological? Plus: What would happen if everyone's Gmail archive suddenly became public?||4/15/14||Free||View In iTunes|

||Greg Marx & Gordon Witkin||On Democracy in America, Greg talks to Gordon about transparency and accountability in government. Gordon explains why New Jersey got high marks just before Gov. Christie's bridge scandal. Greg asks why special interests are sending more money to Montana, of all places. Is all this outside money shifting politics to the left or the right? Is the Supreme Court making it harder to report on campaign finance? They close by considering how many races are determined by outside money.||4/13/14||Free||View In iTunes|

Are dynasties like the Bushes and the Clintons a threat to democracy? What about the fact that every Supreme Court justice is an Ivy Leaguer? Plus: Matt defends the right of private businesses not to participate in gay weddings.||4/11/14||Free||View In iTunes|
||Matthew Duss & Robert Farley||On Foreign Entanglements, Matt reports on his recent trip to Israel, where peace negotiations with the Palestinians have reached a crisis point. Matt and Rob discuss whether Israeli domestic politics will preclude any sort of final deal, and Matt notes that the settlement project has become deeply embedded in the Israeli government. Ripping into a recent WSJ op-ed, Rob argues that sending old American B-52s to Israel would be a bad idea for all involved. They critique Reihan Salam's column declaring that he is still a neoconservative, and consider what that controversial label means now. They analyze Russia's invasion of Ukraine, and the "a*****e problem" in international relations. Plus: Geography is for losers!||4/10/14||Free||View In iTunes|

Lots of Potential
Great authors and commentators. Exciting concept. Unfortunately, some episodes have such annoying technical difficulties (usually feedback) that I can't finish listening to them. For some reason every speaker tries to be funny. Nine times out of ten the joke fails and kills the momentum. It may feel akward but please just get to the good stuff right off the bat instead of struggling to begin a show with something humorous. I look forward to this podcast getting sharper and better produced!
a hidden gem?
Rob Wright & Mickey Kaus are dynamite, and the concept in general is worthy. But the audio is out of balance. Needs a little post production to get both speakers at the same level...
Just awesome. Smart people talking about intelligent things. Conversations are not a bunch of talking points. I prefer to watch the video version at bloggingheads.tv but that is just me. I can't saying enough about bloggingheads.tv its simply wonderful.
