The adventure of Underwood and Flinch continues in this first audiobook sequel to the original story. Having returned to the house in Spain, David Flinch uncovers old audio interviews between his father, Arthur Flinch, and the vampire, Lord Underwood. Through these recordings, David learns what happened to Underwood when he and Matthias Flinch sailed on from where we left them in 1719. A voyage that sees Underwood face new dangers, make new allies, and discover more about the creature of darkness he has become. Blood and Smoke won the Parsec Award in 2014 for Best Novella.

Another Vampire Masterpiece!

With Blood & Smoke, Mike Bennett has followed up his amazing work in Underwood & Flinch. Unlike Underwood & Flinch, Blood & Smoke captures Lord Underwood's history, as gleaned from a series of recordings he made and his journals.

While Underwood & Flinch almost felt like a dramatic reading by a cast of performers given Bennett's virtuosity with creating voices to match the characters, Blood & Smoke has a more limited range of characters. The sole misstep of this series is Bennett's portrayal of an African in Colonial times. As Bennett himself acknowledged in one podcast, he simply didn't growing up listening to the voices of Africans, so he just hasn't mastered it as he as those of the Spanish, Russian, Irish, and British characters.

All told Blood & Smoke is another triumph for Mr. Bennett.

This is hours and hours of entertainment. I’m not generally into the vampire genre, but this is so much more than that. It’s got gangsters, sex, gunfights, explosions… one of my favorite works of fiction, period.

U&F continues to be awesome

Blood and Smoke is the excellent sequel to the equally great Underwood and Flinch. The series continues to impress!
