A truck driver searches across America for the wife she had long assumed was dead. In the course of her search, she will encounter not-quite-human serial murderers, towns literally lost in time, and a conspiracy that goes way beyond one missing woman.

If you liked Night Vale… well, here’s more.
I can imagine it’s difficult for a writer of something so viral to try and do anything different, to try and live up to that standard, or try to remove any new work from the shadow of a goliath he’s created. Unfortunately, Fink’s writing doesn’t give “Alice” much opportunity to do so.
I’m a big fan of Night Vale, so of course I assumed I would enjoy this podcast. But here’s the thing: when I heard we were getting something new and different from the Night Vale team, I expected to get something new and different. But, so far (as of episode one, so I still have hope that this could change) it just feels like Night Vale. Yes it’s a different story, unsettling and interesting (I have more questions about the Thistle Man than I do about Alice), but the words feel to be lifted right from a Night Vale transcript. With its roundabout and complex analogies and its discussion of nonexistence and humanity’s insignificance, it’s more of what we’ve already heard from Joseph Fink. And that’s the downfall of it. It doesn’t sound like Fink is catering to an audience who expects the American Gothic, purple-prose-style writing that Night Vale is so famously known for, but rather that Fink simply can’t write anything else. You can tell that he’s trying, but as of episode one our narrator’s words strike me as no different than those of a certain Mayor of Night Vale.
Don’t get me wrong, Jasika Nicole’s acting is wonderful and Disparition’s score is excellent, but the writing makes it difficult to imagine we’re listening to anything other than another chapter in the Night Vale universe.
Alice should die.
Let me breakdown Alice isn't dead for you. It opens with an ad and a riddle. Followed by 9-10 minutes of fantastic storytelling followed by 11 more minutes of ads. Then finishes with the answer to the riddle (which is also an ad) then 4 minutes of music and finally the last 7 minutes is cut off. If you like this sort of thing then by all means please download.
It's not easy to freak me out, but this one legitimately did and I loved it! The voice acting is so fun and I love the premise and the editing and the voice acting. Literally blew me away and I actually think I prefer it to Welcome to Night Vale.
