Description

Mr. Deity offers a humorous (and slightly irreverent) look at the day-to-day operations of the universe and the "Big Man" in charge. It's a behind-the-scenes look at how Mr. Deity and his long-suffering assistant, Larry, grapple with the complications of their new Creation. "What kind of Evil will be allowed in this new universe?" "How do you go about finding a 'Savior'?" and "Why won't these darned lights work?" are just some of the thought-provoking questions raised by this nutty series. Funny and insightful

As a Christian, I found the first four episodes to be very funny. The writers are not afraid to poke at timeless questions like, "How can a good God allow so much evil?" and, "How is it 'fair' to set Jesus up as an example of perfect humanity when he is also fully divine?" Casting Mr. Deity as a somewhat absentminded (yet very focused) and effete man of impeccable taste -- and a very busy man -- is funny, too. Accurate? Who knows??? There are, after all, so many different portraits of God in the Bible. The casting of Jesse-uh-Jesus as a metrosexual may actually be pretty accurate. Jesus the man certainly enjoyed a good party and had considerable charisma. Not so sure about the slight cluelessness of Jesus, though. And finally, there is Larry, the hardworking, slightly nerdy production assistant and apparent third Person of the Trinity. Larry is cast as the consumate straight man (in both senses of the word). It would have been interesting to have cast the Holy Spirit as a female, as is the tradition of some branches of Christianity, but Larry is somewhat androgynous, so I guess that works. The writing, casting, filming, and editing of the first four episodes is great. The short 3-5 minute format works well, too. By poking gently, "Mr. Deity" provokes thought -- something that's good for all of us. If this team can keep this up, they have a winner on their hands.

Very witty comedy!

The people behind this podcast are really talented - the writing and the delivery are top-notch and had me rolling on the floor. I think a video podcast is the perfect medium for this, as I think having it on TV for a 30-minute episode would draw everything out. In this medium, they can put all the sharpest jokes in a short compact episode. I hope they keep making more - great podcast!

There! You've been commanded! And after you've subscribed, start hounding anyone you know with even the slightest connection to the television industry and demand Mr. Deity is made into a regular feature on primetime TV. This is too hilarious to be restricted to the iTunes-saavy portion of the populace.
