A domestic terrorist attack evokes a violent and oppressive response from the U.S. government... a labor dispute ends in violence... a young boy lies dying of a rare disease with no hope in sight. When the conflict focuses on a small town in West Virginia, Ken Murphy, Iraq veteran and Lieutenant Colonel in the West Virginia National Guard, must find a way to protect his family and community in a world turned upside down. In a future America terrifying to behold, Republic evokes the specter of civil war in a world that is simultaneously familiar and changed beyond recognition.

This is a great novel! While it is a politically charged topic, it is hard to deny that the premise of the podcase is not plausible. The writing is fantastic with great cliffhangers, muliple interacting plot lines and dynamic, interest characters. This is probably the first podcast where I am really wanting to get the book and plan to do so soon. The technical quality of the podcast is great too. The use of sound effects and music is wonderful. I really look forward to the release of each episode. If you're not listening to this podcast you probably should subscribing to it as you finish reading this review.

Not for everybody, but a sobering "possible future".

The author had some personal issues come up that interfered with him publishing the podcast for a couple of months, but he's back to it. The story is extremely engaging, well written, well read and very thought provoking. The characters are developed soundly enough for the story to stand without dragging. The premise is sad, in that many jobs are being shipped over-seas and putting American citizens out of work, and the people in the big political offices are more interested in helping the corporations make money than serving the public. The author doesn't stand on which political party is the "bad guy" in the story (at least, up to episode 15, which is the latest published), but rather focuses on the human element: What's the impact on the people on the street.

Enthralling book

I have just spent the last six hours listening to this book... unable to take the earphones out of my ears. I listen to a lot of podcast books, many of which I have found lacking, this production, however, is excellent. Good audio and great story... Highly recommended.
