Description

A series of 15-20 minute long interviews of experts on various topics related to mental and public health. The list of informational interviews and topics will be continuously expanded. The interviews are designed for non-professionals. Topics range from the effect of media on girls's self-images, discussions of violence, IBS, OCD addictions, borderline personality disorders, mental health issues in the deaf, hallucinations, obesity, TMS, depressions, anxiety and stress, self-cutting, medication use with children, eating disorders, medication metabolism and pharmacogenomics, forensic issues, dementia, suicide psychiatric treatment, love, caregiving youth, stuttering, play, PTSD, medication side effects, the effect of war violence on children, and so on. (Any opinion or position expressed in these interviews is not necessarily that of the host or of the Florida Psychiatric Society. Any individual treatment decision must be the product of a doctor-patient interaction. Likewise, new or additional information on each topic may have developed since the time the interviews occurred. Consult your physician.)

Customer Reviews

Conservative views

Episodes in Medicinal Marijuana are negative. "Old style" of critical thinking and scientific reasoning. Like a strict parent.

Excellent

Finally, a Podcast that gets right to the point. Interesting topics presented in a clear, concise and informative way. Great overview for professionals in the field and anyone else interested in the human condition.

Refreshingly substantial

This is probably my favorite podcast because it manages to cover each topic intellectually without going over the heads of those of us who didn't major in psych. At the same time, it doesn't sensationalize or water down the material. The host asks intriguing questions of the guests who are, in turn, the best part of the podcast and true experts on the topic.

Favorites include: psychopathy, teenage brain, love, both podcasts on borderline personality disorder, and the sexual serial killer.
