Reseña de álbum

Saxophonist and clarinetist Buck Hill recorded this CD for the Montpelier jazz series; the Maryland-based program that exists to serve and educate the public while supporting the art form. Hill's release from their fall 2000 program entitled Uh-Huh! Buck Hill Live at Montpelier is the label's second release and is the perfect blend of bebop, straight-ahead, and swing. Buck Hill offers eight original songs and is accompanied by Jon Ozmont on piano, Cheyney Thomas on bass, and Jerry Jones on drums. They swing through "Blue Five" and "Total Beauty" with the craft of master musicians and later segue into the down-home "Minor Mode Blues" with such ease that the listener instantly knows that the great Buck Hill is on top of his jazz game. His melodic approach to these eight compositions have destined them to become jazz standards since they reflect the virtuoso saxophonist at the zenith of his career with boundless drive, enormous presence, and with patriarchal command. Uh Huh! Buck Hill, Live at Montpelier is a great way to get to know the essence of Buck Hill and this recording impressively surpasses his previously released efforts, This Is Buck Hill and Scope.
