Now or Never

Now or Never

After starting his music career singing backup with Ginuwine, Milwaukee crooner Tank found solo success with his first album, 2001's Force of Nature and its lead single "Maybe I Deserve." Two more full-lengths followed, and he also honed his production skills, teaming up with Missy Elliot for her smash hit "One Minute Man." For Now Or Never, he picks up where he left off on Sex, Love, & Pain, with 13 new tracks squarely aimed at the ladies. There are a few guest spots; Drake shows up for the low-key, snap-infused party jam "Celebration," Chris Brown does his thing on the aptly titled "Foreplay," and newcomer J. Valentine shines on the bonus track "On My Way," but it's mostly all Tank, firing a barrage of ballads, slow jams, and romantic tales set to solid production heavy on the synths, shimmering chimes, and seductive bass lines. Avoiding the retro gimmickry of neo-soul while also steering clear of hyper beats and Auto Tune, this is simply good, modern R&B — the well-crafted soundtrack to a night (or long weekend) with that special someone.
