Album Review

Frank Potenza has spent most of his musical career teaching, although he's performed with George Van Eps, Bud Shank and Eddie Harris and took over as the guitarist in the Gene Harris Quartet in the mid-1990s. A protégé of Joe Pass, Potenza's duets with bassist Bob Magnusson are lyrical, swinging and concise with a diverse program that includes Lee Morgan's "Hocus Pocus," Jobim's "Corcovado," the bluesy "Hold It," and a touching ballad "In My Dreams," written by his mother. This music is so intimate it sounds as if it is being played in a living room for an audience of one.-Highly recommmended.
