Sleep, in Max Richter’s words, was his “personal lullaby for a frenetic world—a manifesto for a slower pace of existence.” This album of remixes, however, is not something to sleep through. Including contributions by a handful of talented electronic artists and DJs, Sleep Remixes emanates the nocturnal, but in a more aggressive, pronounced way, acting as a sort of dark negative of Richter’s original work. Clark’s well-reasoned version of “Path 5” slowly transforms from innocuous to assertive and robust, while Jürgen Müller’s take on “Dream 3” is a study in temporality and texture.
