Album Review

The second volume of new and old Kyper material put out by Tip Top features a previously unreleased remix of "Do You Want Acid?" and the original versions of "Throw Down," "I Wanna Freak," "What Is This World Coming To?," and others. There are three other newly released tracks on the album, and they're generally of the same quality as the rest — they're indebted to old-school electro and bass music as well as rap, and they keep the record's groove pumping strong.

Kyper was born Randall S. Kiper in Baton Rouge, LA, in the early '70s. His self-written "Tic-Tac-Toe" amazingly became a hit in 1990. Equally as astounding, the pop smash did nothing on the R&B charts. The song was a pop-disco-rap mix dominated by electronic drums and was popular in clubs. Though Kyper wrote all his songs, he borrowed heavily from Midnight Star, and "Tic Tac Toe" ripped off the guitar riff from Yes' "Owner of a Lonely Heart."
