About Sweater Girls

Sweater Girls are an indie pop group from Los Angeles who take inspiration from noisy indie poppers like Black Tambourine and the Shop Assistants, but also sweethearts like the Softies and any number of Amelia Fletcher-led projects. Made up of vocalist/guitarist Diana Meehan, bassist Cary Chafin (who replaced original bassist Allan Kingdom), drummer Jackie Teran, guitarist Joey Teran, and Tatiana Sanchez on vocals, keyboard, and glockenspiel, the band formed in 2009 and quickly caught the ear of Georgia-based pop label Happy Happy Birthday to Me. The band released its first single ("Do the Sweater") in February of 2010, then followed it up with another ("Pretty When You Smile") in August.

After playing the NYC Popfest in spring of 2011, the band had a relatively quiet year. They returned in 2012 with a cover of the Jonathan Richman song "I'm a Little Dinosaur" (for the Pop! For Kids Project) and their debut album, Sweater Girls Were Here.... It was produced by former Mighty Lemon Drops member David Newton and released on Happy Happy Birthday to Me in September. ~ Tim Sendra
