Ass Ponys

About Ass Ponys

Formed in Cincinatti, Ohio in 1988, Ass Ponys released their debut album, MR. SUPERLOVE, in 1990 (the title track was later covered by the Ohio-bred Afghan Whigs). Their sound mixed quirky alternative rock with a rootsy Americana tinge, and singer Chuck Cleaver's absurdist lyrics and high, tremulous voice helped lend the band a distinctive sound. They graduated to a major label in the mid-'90s, lasting in the big game for a couple of albums before returning to indiedom. They released their final album in 2001, and Cleaver went on to form the similar-sounding band Wussy.
