High Places

About High Places

After an introduction by mutual friends, experimental bassoonist Mary Pearson and avant-sampler Robert Barbar soon both found themselves in Brooklyn's thriving underground and in 2006 started performing together. With an inventive swirl of layered beats and blurps and Pearson's child-like melodies, the duo suggest a mash-up of Animal Collective's airy vocals, Kraftwerk's psych-tinged digitalia, and upbeat tropicalia. Their totally unique sound and ridiculous touring schedule landed them a coveted spot on Thrill Jockey's roster in 2008.
