About Marty Ehrlich
After studying at the New England Conservatory, Marty Ehrlich began working with a number of jazz musicians in the 1970s, predominantly those working in the field of free music, including Muhal Richard Abrams, Jaki Byard, and Leo Smith. In 1978, Ehrlich joined Chico Hamilton’s group and became a regular in Russell’s New York Big Band, as well as leading his own groups throughout the '80s and '90s, including a trio with Pheeroan Ak Laff and bass player Anthony Cox. Ehrlich also played in bands led by Abrams, Byard, Anthony Braxton, and Oliver Lake. Ehrlich is a gifted composer and is especially adept at writing for contemporary big bands.
