About Pato Banton
Raised in Birmingham, England, Pato Banton (born Patrick Murray) splashed onto the rampant '80s British reggae scene in 1982, appearing on the Beat’s SPECIAL BEAT SERVICE. Shortly thereafter he increased his notoriety, performing on UB40’s BAGGARIDDIM and LITTLE BAGGARIDDIM. In 1985, the charismatic singer/toaster recorded his first LP, collaborating with legendary dub producer Mad Professor for MAD PROFESSOR CAPTURES PATO BANTON and again four years later with RECAPTURED. Banton’s 1990 cover of the Police’s "Spirits In The Material World" proved a major crossover success in the U.S. He also scored with a cover of Eddy Grant’s “Baby Come Back, ” as a duet with Ali Campbell of UB40.
