About Rhino 39

Based in Long Beach, California, the fairly obscure Rhino 39 formed in 1977 in the wake of such bands as the MC5 and the Stooges, never quite gathering sufficient backing to break out of the local circuit, despite a mid-'80s deal with Triple X Records. The band worked into the late '70s and '80s, chronicled by the 1979 single "Xerox," and "Marry It" on the 1981 Bemis Brain Hell Comes to Your House, Vol. 1 compilation, but vanished quietly in the wake of the new wave and power pop bands. ~ Steven McDonald
