About Simon Thoumire Three

b. 11 July 1970, Edinburgh, Scotland. Concertina player Thoumire made his first big impact on the folk scene when winning the BBC Radio 2 Young Tradition Award in 1989. Thoumire, pronounced Toomere, is French in origin. His style fuses traditional folk and jazz music, creating a highly original sound. Hootz was extremely well received, as was the follow-up release, in tandem with Seannachie, Devil’s Delight. In addition to teaching English concertina, both in the UK and America, Thoumire has toured the US and Canada, as well as making live appearances in Europe and on television and radio. For Waltzes For Playboys, the Simon Thoumire Three included Kevin Mackenzie (guitar) and Brian Sheils (bass).
