Topic: Anime Clubs

An anime club is an organization that meets to discuss, show, and promote anime in a local community setting and can also focus on broadening Japanese cultural understanding.[1] Anime clubs are increasingly found at universities and high schools. Organizers may also utilize public meeting spaces such as a library or a government center. Any anime club attendees identify themselves as otaku. Although the core of anime club attendees are in their twenties, there are generally no age requirements. Adults in their fifties and sixties and teenagers also attend.

Anime club meetings can occur on a weekly or monthly basis. In addition to viewing anime, clubs engage in other activities such as viewing anime music videos, reading manga, karaoke and cosplaying.Many clubs host online forums to further foster community interaction, and feature library to lend books and manga to members. Participants of an anime club often are also involved in volunteering and organization of local anime conventions.
Dependent on the scope of the club, activities can also have a broader range, to include playing of table top games such as Shogi, Go, and Mahjong. Outside activities include Saké tasting and visits to cultural events such as National Cherry Blossom Festival or a Kendo demonstration.

The band name “2 Bullet” relates to the idea of balance of power, and conjures up imagery of two people pointing a gun at each other. This also implies the concept of Mutually Assured Destruction. The band themselves are anti-totalitarian, and perform live in military camouflage and war paint.

Asian Festival — Year of the Tiger

The Asian Festival at the Institute of Texan Cultures located at the UTSA HemisFair Park Campus in downtown San Antonio is a community event honoring Asian cultures and traditions from the Pacific Rim.

The Asian Festival brings together organizations rich in Eastern culture, showcasing their respective cultures with an educational and entertaining approach. The event includes martial arts demonstrations, botanicals and mouthwatering cuisine from more than a dozen Far Eastern countries – such as Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Vietnamese, Pakistani, Filipino, and Polynesian. Dance groups will entertain you. Cooking demonstrations will tease your taste buds. Activities for the younger visitors include making paper lanterns, origami, and more. From songs and dances to bonsai and Ikebana, from jujitsu and tai chi to chopsticks and origami, visitors have a special opportunity to learn the "how and why" of many age-old customs, and thus gain a greater appreciation of them and of those who practice them.

What is Cosplay?

Cosplay (コスプレ kosupure?), short for "costume play",[1] is type of performance art in which participants don costumes and accessories to represent a specific character or idea. Characters are often drawn from popular fiction in Japan. Favorite sources include manga, anime, tokusatsu, comic books, graphic novels, video games, hentai and fantasy movies. Role play includes portrayals of J-pop and J-rock stars, Taiwanese puppet characters, science fiction characters, characters from musical stories, classic novels, and entertainment software. Any entity from the real or virtual world that lends itself to dramatic interpretation may be taken up as a subject. Inanimate objects are given an anthropomorphic forms and it is not unusual to see genders switched, with women playing male roles and vice versa.

Cosplay Tips

-Always arrive early for a photoshoot. If you are lucky you may get a one-on-one session with the cosplayer.

-Be respectful. Never ask a cosplayer for their phone number or other personal information. They may not be comfortable giving it out. Ask for an e-mail instead.

- Let the Cosplay position themselves for the shots. It looks more realistic that way.

-Don't criticize another cosplayer an outfit is an outfit no matter what it is made out of.

-Match up your costume according to your body size. This tends to be tougher for women. Not all outfits may work for you. You don't always have to show skin. Have respect for yourself. If you are a full-figured or plus-size find outfits that are not so tight.

-Always make or buy your outfits in advance and check your measurements they may change over time.
