- Lionel Richies tid i The Commodores och hans två första soloalbum var braksuccé på braksuccé. Kanske var det pressen att komma med ännu en framgångsrik platta som gjorde att inspelningarna av ”Dancing on the Ceiling” blev långdragna och att Richie skrev om flera av låtarna under arbetets gång. Slutresultatet blev en gladare och mer dansant platta, men också längre låtar och större ballader. Odödliga Say You, Say Me är förstås central, medan Deep River Woman är alldeles för underskattad.
