Pleco is the ultimate Chinese learning companion - an integrated dictionary / document reader / flashcard system with fullscreen handwriting input and live OCR, from a company that's been making the world's best mobile Chinese learning apps since 2001.
Major features: ($ = paid add-on)
• Amazing dictionaries. We include two lovely free ones built-in: the popular open-source CC-CEDICT, with over 100,000 frequently-updated entries, and our own PLC dictionary, with 78,000 more detailed entries and over 20,000 example sentences (with Pinyin). More than two dozen other dictionaries are available as free and paid ($) add-ons, including licensed titles from well-known publishers like Oxford, Longman, FLTRP, Tuttle, SLPH, and Commercial Press.
• Powerful merged search: look up words by Chinese characters, Pinyin (spaces / tones optional), or English, with support for wildcards and full-text search. And no need to tediously flip between all of those dictionaries to find a word - just type in your search term and instantly get a combined, frequency-sorted result list.
• Links and cross-references: easily look up character components, break down words into individual characters, look up lists of words containing a particular character, search across all dictionaries for example sentences containing a word, and even find synonyms / antonyms using our (experimental) free thesaurus add-on.
• Gorgeous typography: see it for yourself in our screenshots - we think we're one of the best-looking Chinese dictionaries around. Alternate Kai/Song/Xing-style Chinese fonts are also available ($).
• Mainland/HK/Taiwan-friendly: every part of Pleco supports both traditional and simplified characters, headword pronunciations can be shown in Zhuyin as well as in Pinyin, and we even support Cantonese search and display in our PLC dictionary.
• Audio: iOS 7 users can take advantage of the free built-in Mandarin and Cantonese TTS system to hear pronunciations for words and example sentences. We also offer add-ons ($) with native-speaker Mandarin and Cantonese recordings, plus higher-quality Mandarin text-to-speech system options.
• Document Reader: bring in text from the clipboard and tap on words in it to instantly look them up. Upgrade ($) adds support for tap-lookups in text, HTML, DOC, DOCX, PDF, and EPUB files, and in embedded lyrics in songs and podcasts.
• OCR: look up words simply by pointing your device's camera at them, or by tapping on them in a still image. ($)
• Fullscreen handwriting: use your device's whole screen instead of just a little box. Extremely accurate and highly tolerant of stroke order mistakes. ($)
• Flashcards: create a card from any dictionary entry with a single button tap, import premade word lists, use advanced memorization techniques like SRS, and study in a variety of modes including fill-in-the-blanks handwriting and tone drills. ($)
• Stroke Order Diagrams: animations showing you how to draw each character; over 20,000 characters are covered. ($)
• User dictionaries: create new dictionary entries right on your device as you encounter new words. ($)
• Absolutely no ads.

What's New in Version 3.2.10
3.2.10: A few more bug fixes including a fix for a nasty crash in multiple-choice flashcards.
3.2.9: A minor update to tide everyone over since our larger, new-iOS-feature-centric update is taking longer than anticipated.
• 3D Touch shortcut support on the iPhone 6s/6s Plus; customizable in Settings / Miscellaneous, with some neat new options like "OCR last photo."
• Related to that, a new option in Settings / Miscellaneous to automatically open Still OCR on your most recent photo when opening Pleco. This requires iOS 8, includes an option on iOS 9 to limit to screenshots only, and also includes an option to only do this if the photo was taken within the last X minutes, so that you can make sure you're not randomly interrupted in your Pleco'ing by a non-Chinese-related photo you took 3 hours ago.
• Few minor optimizations around the new iPad Pro.
• Lots and lots of bug fixes, including fixes for crashing bugs, position saving reliability issues in the document reader, weird / distorted views after switching to/from split-screen mode on iPad, and issues with opening files from other apps.
Next few updates are going to do a lot more with new iOS features (3D Touch, Share extensions, niftier things with split-screen, enhanced web reader, nicer UI in various places) along with a couple of brand new features and a bunch of new dictionaries and major updates to old dictionaries. After that we hope to *finally* dig in and actually finish our long-awaited flashcard and OCR system revamps :-)
In conjunction with the next major update, we plan to drop support for iOS 7, and possibly even iOS 8; every device that supports iOS 8 also supports iOS 9, so we won't be cutting off anyone by requiring 9 rather than just 8. You'll still be able to re-download / buy / restore add-ons in this version of Pleco on your old iOS 7 device even after we drop support for iOS 7, you just won't be able to download any newer versions of Pleco.
As always, since the App Store resets our review average with every update, we'd really appreciate it if you'd leave another review - don't have to write anything, just the star button will do. We hate the fact that other developers put up nag screens asking for reviews, and would never do that ourselves, but reviews help us show up more prominently in search results, which leads to more users / more money to improve Pleco.
Best Chinese-English dictionary ever!
I've tried many dictionaries, this one wins hands down. The best thing is it has capacity to add on extra dictionaries and functions to it, both free and payable. Keep up the great job!
This is our go-to Chinese dictionary
Good app update
