iris is the acronym for "Intelligent Route Information System" which provides bus travel information to enhance commuters' travel experience with SBS Transit. There are two offerings: iris NextBus and iris Journey Planner.
iris Journey Planner helps commuters plan the best way to get to their destinations by providing travel solutions on our buses and trains based on the shortest walking distance or shortest travelling time.
iris NextBus offers bus arrival timings on a real time basis.
iris also provides a host of helpful information such as details of the bus routes, bus services on the road that are delayed or diverted and scheduled changes in bus operating hours. Commuters can also obtain information on first and last train operating hours, planned changes in train service hours as well as find out if train services are running smoothly.
What's New in Version 2.0.0
A new User Interface for better user experience:
- Home screen now provides easy access to the various app features
- Drawer menu to zip around the app features seamlessly
- New section to address frequently asked questions
- A user guide when the app is first launched
Complete list of retail shops/outlets operating on the North East and Downtown Line stations, Punggol and Sengkang LRT stations and bus interchanges
Besides showing nearby bus stops located by the phone's GPS, users can now search for other bus stops by keying in their bus stop codes.
Bookmark a route found on the Journey Planner
New additions are the MRT system map, station locality maps and information on station exits and facilities
A new announcements tab to alert users to new services and other bus and rail news
Good improvement, minor bugs
The new UI has much fewer bugs and is very easy to use. Pretty too. There is a bug in bookmarking - I just couldn't bookmark certain bus stations even though it shows 'added to bookmark' after I swipe right. Also, the right swipe is a little too sensitive. A tap is very often taken as a right swipe. As a result, when I tried tapping the refresh button to check bus arrival timing, the app always mistook it as a right swipe, and churn out the bus route instead. Same situation with tapping in a bus stop to look at the buses, the app prompted 'added to bookmarks!' :S The right swipe function needs to be less sensitive. Also, it will be better if bookmarks is moved further up in the menu since it is a frequently used function. More frequently than journey planner surely.
Update is 10 steps backwards
The new interface looks pretty and all but it doesn't work as well as the previous layout. Navigation used to be so easy n straightforward.. Now it's just a mess. It takes more clicks to get to get to different tabs. And the bookmark is just as epic fail now. Am I supposed to memories which bus number belongs to which bus stop now for the bus service + bus stop tab?! And the refresh button is a pain too. You have to click exactly within the sign which is such a small surface area.. Come on!! Updates are meant to make it easier for users but this is just gonna make users switch to another app. DO SOMETHING!!! This doesn't even deserve 1 star.
